Preferred Wedding Hotel

We wanted to keep everyone close and have a convenient central location for our guests which is why we have chosen only one hotel. We also expect that post wedding cocktails will continue at the hotel. We hope to see you there as the night winds down.

We picked The Drake Hotel because it means staying at the quintessential Chicago hotel. Built in 1920 the historic hotel is beautiful with outstanding service and charm. It is also conveniently located to some of the best shopping in the world and a very short distance to the wedding location.

Transportation

Chicago is well equipped with public transportation and cabs. You will not need to rent a car, however, if you would like to prearrange transportation to and from the airport, my favorite car service is Metro Limousine, (773) 380-2030. Please be sure to ask for the size of car that you will need to meet the needs of your party and your luggage.

If you would like to take public transportation from O'Hare or Midway airports, you can take the EL (or Chicago ELevated subway). Follow the signs in the airport for the CTA/trains. You will find these signs in the baggage claim area. You will then proceed underground. Once you arrive at the EL station, you will need to buy a pass (you will see machines to purchase cards). Each ride is $2.00 and you can load as much money on your card as you like (i.e. you may  want to put $4.00 on the card to accommodate to and from the airport).

Taking the El from O’Hare –

Board the EL and you will be on the “Blue Line.” It will take 45 minutes to get to the city from the airport (which is much faster than by car in most cases). Take the EL to the State and Lake stop. From there you have 2 choices:

  • Transfer to the “Red Line” (transfers are $.25) going north to Howard. Take the Red Line to the Chicago stop. This ride will take about 10 minutes. Exit the Chicago station and grab a cab to the Drake Hotel. Or, walk 2 blocks East to Michigan Avenue. Turn left (North) on Michigan Avenue and walk 3 blocks north to The Drake Hotel

  • Exit the EL station and grab a cab to The Drake Hotel (about a 5 minute drive)

Taking the El from Midway –

Board the EL and you will be on the “Orange Line.” It will take about 30 minutes to get to the city from the airport (which is much faster than by car in most cases). Take the EL to the State and Lake stop. From there you have 2 choices:

  • Transfer to the “Red Line” (transfers are $.25) going north to Howard. Take the Red Line to the Chicago stop. This ride will take about 10 minutes. Exit the Chicago station and grab a cab to The Drake Hotel or walk 2 blocks East to Michigan Avenue. Turn left (North) on Michigan Avenue and walk 3 blocks north to The Drake Hotel

  • Exit the EL station and grab a cab to The Drake Hotel (about a 5 minute drive)

Cabs

Cabs are everywhere and they charge by distance, time and number of people in the cab. And, when going to and from the airport, there is a small city tax surcharge of about $1.00 that will be automatically be added to your total. A cab from the airport will cost about $45 depending on traffic.  Every cab should know The Drake Hotel and the Chicago Historical Society (wedding and reception site) and the most popular tourist sites. But, they are not always reliable for every destination. If you will be participating in any of the pre-wedding activities, you should bring the address of the location to give your cab driver – or ask the concierge for cross streets of your destination if you venture out on your own.

Feet

In the city your feet are the best mode of transportation. You will be right in the heart of the shopping and restaurant district and can walk to so many places. The best advice is to pack some stylish but comfortable shoes for site seeing because you could end up on your feet all day.

Parking

Parking at the Drake is XXX a night. Parking in the city in general is expensive

Parking at the Chicago Historical Society is XX. You will need a parking pass which you can get from XXX
