This was our last day in Rome. We had a tour guide show us the ancient ruins. We both wished we would have listened more carefully in history class. We were overwhelmed at the sites. We then rented our very compact car and drove to Siena.

Beautiful Brandy is sipping tea at breakfast in the hotel.

The tall pillar was erected after a battle win. It contains stories (in relief) of the battle. The stories are carved in a spiral pattern. After a significant battle win, the Romans usually build something to celebrate.

This arch was located next to the most popular Forum. It is very old.

This is what is left of the popular Forum.

This is a view that overlooks several of the Ruins. You can see the Colosseum in the left background. We eventually walked through it.

This is the famous symbol of Rome.  Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome, as they nurse on a bear.

This sculpture was at the base of the Capitol building. I'm sure it is someone important.

Our tour guide, Claudia, indicated this building is often mistaken for the Colosseum. If you look closely, apartments were built on top of the arches.

This is a famous building where ancient commerce took place.

I believe this is a sculpture of Marcus Aurelius in the Capitol courtyard..

There is a building along the main street that has several maps depicting the land under Roman rule throughout time. This was the map under Constantine with the strongest empire.

This photo was taken as we walked through the ruins. The buildings on the hill in the distance is Capitol Hill.

A photo of a demonstration that passed by the Colosseum. The protestors were blowing whistles and it was hard on the ears. They were protesting increased real estate taxes in specific neighborhoods.

This is the Constantine Arch outside of the Colosseum. It was built after a battle victory.

The exterior of the Colosseum.

The interior of the Colosseum had many walkways underneath its floor. These walkways were used to store ferocious animals. The animals were presented through trap doors in the floor for all kinds of gladiator sports.

Claudia took this photo.

Rome has a vast network of underground springs. This is one drinking fountain tapped into a spring.

After renting a car in Rome, we drove to Siena. We drove out of Rome and to Siena with few complications. Once we arrived in Siena, it took us a couple hours (due to bad maps) to locate the appropriate portal (a hole in the wall that surrounds the perimeter of the city) near our hotel. Ultimately, we followed the nice lady at the grocery store in our car as she lead us to Porto Romano. We were extremely hungry from our adventure and this restaurant was recommended by the hotel. It was one of the best meals we had in Italy. In this photo, the chef presented Brandy with an orchid.

We indulged and Brandy tasted her first Grappa.

Brandy signed the restaurant guest book.

After dinner, we walked a couple doors down to the Aussie bar for a couple nightcaps. In the middle of the bar, they had this view of the basement.
